The Year of the Dog
With Spring not too far away now, for some the New Year has only just begun.
It’s Chinese New Year – the Year of the Dog – a symbol of loyalty and honesty. This year something caught my eye about the Chinese calendar. It includes some of our most loved pets and companions, the dog, the rabbit and the horse. As I have two cats, I was curious to know why the cat was not included.
Legend has it that the Jade Emperor decided to select the twelve animals of the Chinese calendar. Only those helpful to humans were eligible. The dog and cat argued about who should be chosen, so the Emperor asked them both questions so he could decide. The cat won having told a disgraceful lie. The dog was angry as it knew that the cat had lied and chased it away. It kept running and hiding in different places. Then the dog heard the rules had been changed to: ‘those first arrived animals at the Heavenly Palace’. So the dog set off. When the cat found out and ran to the Heavenly Palace, it was too late! The honest dog was selected instead. However, it never forgave the cat!!

After the recent snowy weather, we’re all looking forward to Spring. Why not enjoy a shopping day and come and see me at this event on Saturday 10 March, at The Villa, Levens!
In the week of International Women’s Day, this event celebrates the achievements of women entrepreneurs across South Lakeland and North Lancashire.
Many WINK members will be displaying their products available for purchase, including:

- Carole Wilkinson of CA Creations (unique silver and copper jewellery)
- Judith Smith of Palanquin Flair (exclusive cashmere, silk, woollen and linen designer fashions)…
…to name but a few.
What’s more, the event is the day before Mother’s Day – so it’s the ideal opportunity to buy that last minute gift! We open at 10.00 and finish at 16.00.
Free £50 Mother’s Day Gift
There’s still time to give a beautifully presented gift voucher for Mother’s Day. Create special memories of the people or animals that are most special to Mum, a thoughtful and different present that will last forever. As it’s such a special day for her…
from now until Mother’s Day any gift vouchers you buy will include a free 8″ square print on aluminium worth £50!
They are printed with fine art inks and treated to prevent UV and moisture damage so you can even enjoy them in your bathroom. The aluminium brings out tiny details and gives lighter areas a beautiful satin sheen. All my packages include a full photography session at a location of Mum’s choice. I am an expert with people and animals and will capture precious memories that Mum will treasure forever.
