Fun In the Sun
The sunshine on Thursday brought out just about the whole world and his dog to the Westmorland County Show.
The heat looked a bit much for some of the multitudes of sheep with their fleeces primped and styled, ready for the judges’ scrutiny.
The dog show attracted a fair few entrants and there were plenty of beautiful horses to admire: heavy horses, light horses, horses with carriages and buggies… There were goats, pigs, cattle, alpacas and poultry, all in their ‘Sunday best’ for the event.
For human competitors there was the Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling contest, or perhaps the tug of war. There were plenty of traditional crafts on display too. They included spinning and weaving wool, in the run up to next month’s Kendal Woolgathering, woodturning and lacemaking.
An abundance of local businesses were in attendance with their wares. You could see anything from beautiful soaps and ceramics through to more tractors than you could shake a stick at!
