I recently met up with two franchisees of Barking Mad to take photos of their lovely dogs. We got together for a photo shoot on a warm day at Happy Mount Park and finished with more photographs on the shore at Morecambe. Alison Quigley has cared for animals of one sort or another most of her life. She owns a gorgeous bearded collie, Yeshe, a lively and bouncy dog. Kathryn Thompson has been a Barking Mad franchisee for many years and owns a dignified, elderly golden retriever, TJ. He has a beautiful, shiny coat and definitely doesn’t look his age (something we all aspire to!).
People and dogs all had a lovely time and I came away with a clear understanding of what Alison and Kathryn do as Barking Mad franchisees and with the feeling that I would absolutely trust them or their host families with my beloved pets. They were both so enthusiastic about their work and the Barking Mad brand.
Let me tell you a little about Barking Mad. It’s a unique dog-sitting service that enables pets to stay in a host’s own home. So they have their own ‘holiday’ in a home environment, with someone who will give them lots of fuss and attention. The owners are shown a selection of local host homes and can choose the one they feel will best suit their dogs. Dogs generally go back to the same home each time, so there is peace of mind for owners as well as pets.
Barking Mad is always looking for more host families as it is an increasingly popular alternative to kennels, asking one’s parents or asking a friend who says they think they’ll be able to manage only to let you down at the 11th hour! Being a host is also of benefit to people who would love a pet dog but whose circumstances mean they can’t commit to taking one on permanently.
Hosts are interviewed in-depth at their home before being put on Barking Mad’s books. When an owner wants to book with Barking Mad, all initial communication and arrangements are made with the local franchisee. So hosts needn’t worry about anything except welcoming and looking after their four-legged guests.
